Monday,January 27th--Tahiti--Marae Arahurahu near Paea. The statue is in the courtyard (te tahua), and in the distance is the altar (te ahu)—where human sacrifices occurred. Note that this statue is similar to the Moai on Easter Island--except that this one is made of wood, not stone, and is much smaller.
