Thursday, January 9th--The Panama Canal--A "Mule"--Note the two cables from the mule to the ship--this keeps the ship from moving back and forth laterally within the chamber preventing damage to both the canal walls and the ship. When transiting the canal, there are three mules on each side of the ship.
